About

A while back, I started writing down 3 Good Things that happened that day. I have been in the habit of having a lot of anxiety and worry, part of which manifested as me always waiting for something bad to happen. This was one way to try to improve my mental health (along with therapy, meditation and medication). And it has really helped me!

Now, instead of letting my mind focus on imagined bad things that could come to pass, I spend time thinking about good things. I know that every day, at least 3 Good Things will happen so I pay attention and look for them. Now I spend the day waiting for good things to happen. Then, throughout the day, I'll also remember the good things, and wonder if they are one of the BEST good things that will make the cut on my written list that night. So not only do I anticipate good things and experience good things, I reminisce about them as well. So that's a lot of good thoughts flowing through my brain!

Most of the time, my 3 Good Things aren't anything monumental. They can be things like: I had a donut; my dog was really excited to see me when I got home; I told a dumb joke but people still laughed at it. If you're having trouble finding the good things, the smaller the better. Sometimes it can be as simple as "I have functioning indoor plumbing and that's a seriously good thing." It's meant to give you little joys, as often as you can.

Since it's helped me so much, I thought it would be great to make a platform to encourage others to find and share their good things. I tried making a website. I tried making a website multiple ways, and kept failing. I'm not a coder and, having built websites in the past, it would be very frustrating to spend months in coding classes, trying to figure out how to make it do what I want. I gave up on it. Then one day, I got an ad for a coding class sale. And that got me looking around for other classes. And then I found one on Udemy.com that was step-by-step, how to make a social media site. And that was exactly what I needed!

Build a Social Network from Scratch, taught by Reece Kenney, let me follow along on videos and type out the necessary code as he explained it. When I had errors I couldn't fix, I could just copy and paste his class code and get things fixed. It was such a pleasant surprise to find this and get to make a dream come true! It's still wonky. That's ok. It's not responsive and is a pain to use on mobile. That's ok. It exists, and that's a good thing.

As I was finishing this course, I did actually find and buy another course about making mobile apps...so maybe one day I'll get that up and running. Until then, I hope this site can help you recognize and celebrate the Good Things every day!
